Austin Lawrence Perkins, recipient of the 2018-19 Michael D. Walsh Student Broadcasters Trustee Scholarship, writes the letter below to thank alumni for their support of his undergraduate experience:

Dear Donors of the Michael D. Walsh Student Broadcasters Trustee Scholarship,
I am sincerely honored to have been selected as the recipient of the Michael D. Walsh Student Broadcasters Trustee Scholarship. Thank you for your generosity, which has allowed me to focus on my passion of sports broadcasting. Through my broadcast classes I have been able to obtain and discover skills that I was not aware I had and was quickly able to utilize those skills at The LION 90.7fm.
The LION 90.7fm was an amazing experience and will be one that I will remember all throughout the rest of my career. It was in that studio in the HUB that I was able to begin my sports broadcast career as I appeared on The Sports Blitz twice a week with a group of people that were just as passionate about sports as I am. One experience that I will personally never forget is when I and another Sports Blitz member were able to broadcast live from THON and do an NFL Mock Draft, because that was such a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to do something I love while promoting such an amazing event. It does seem like The LION gets overshadowed by CommRadio, but the type of environment and the group of people at The LION 90.7fm are unlike any other and will be one that I miss, as I am getting ready to graduate.
As I complete my education at Penn State, I am very thankful for receiving your thoughtful gift. Because of your scholarship, I will not have to worry about my student loans being overly expensive, and can continue to focus on getting my broadcast career started.
